This movie is so funny! I've seen it a dozen times, but I always have to laugh about the same jokes again as it would be the first time. Maybe my sense of humor is not very typical: many other reviewers state that they didn't find the film funny. But even if you can't laugh about it - little Eric alone is worth the time. He's as cute in this film as in "Luminous Motion" (see my review), just three years younger.
All actors deliver great performance, especially (beneath Eric, of course) Jason Alexander as "Dad" and Paul Reubens as the animal control expert. And last, but not least: the orang-utan Sam, playing "Dunston". It is amazing how the filmmakers managed to shoot all those scenes with the monkey acting like a human being.

Plot summary: Robert Grant (Alexander) runs the five star hotel "Majestic" in New York, where he lives with his two sons Kyle (Lloyd) and Brian. The hotel gets the ultimate chance to earn a sixth star and the pushy owner Mrs. Dubrow (Faye Dunaway) wants to have it at all cost! But now the trouble begins: a criminal who calls himself "Lord Rutledge" (is he really a Lord? I don't know) accommodates in the hotel and uses his trained monkey Dunston to steal a guest's jewelry. But after being treated not too well, Dunston escapes and meets Kyle who tries to hide him from now on...
The film ends in a slapstick-like finale when hell breaks loose at a high society event, the Crystal Ball.

DVD facts: it's a two-faced disc, featuring an anamorphic 1.85:1 version and a pan-and-scan version of the film. The picture quality is O.k., but not superb either. The extras are a 1-minute trailer and a 4-minutes featurette, which is nice to watch, but don't expect too much from it since Eric says only one sentence in it: "I find this orang-utan and no one believes me".
